So glad we spotted this church as we were driving along. A haven on the hill, an opportunity to stop and reflect and give thanks to God.

St Mary's Church on Bryn Glas Hill is a beautiful and wonderfully evocative place and a must for any serious student of Welsh history. For here is the site of one of Owain Glyndwr's greatest and most inspirational victories in open field against the mighty Anglo-Norman foe in his epic struggle for Welsh independence in the early 15th century. A couple of notes of caution should be added to assist here. This location really is not one for the casual visitor as firstly, access is discretely signposted on a bend in the road and via a twisting upward track with limited parking. Secondly, beyond St Mary's Church itself, the site is very steep and requires a 'certain level of fitness' to attempt. However, at the church site your efforts are rewarded with an informative plaque describing the battle and the views of the beautiful Welsh Borders offered are relatively unspoilt and as close as one could reasonably hope for to what Owain himself would have surveyed a little over 600 years ago.....so leave only - your footprints.
