This place is suffering at the hands of the local scrotes, and those that like to treat the countryside as a tip. Rubbish absolutely everywhere, graffiti inside the ruin itself and old fires. I had to come back and clean this place up.

It's not the easiest place to find, and there's no signage or information, but it's an impressive, if a little desolate location. I parked on Pontsarn Cl, Merthyr Tydfil CF48 2TW, which is a residential street with no parking restrictions, and walked up the hill to the gate opposite Goitre Lane. This brings you into the quarry area, which is quite impressive and had a bunch of wild ponies grazing around it while I was there. I worked my way up around the left side of the quarry on to the top of the hill, avoiding the stiles that take you out onto the golf course. I then spotted the remains of single wall, which marks the entry to the central part of the castle area. There's a (dry) well in the centre, and the fence around it has fallen down, so be careful if you have children with you. With the well behind you, looking out towards the quarry, you should be able to spot a wall and some arched stonework high up on the left. This leads to the vaulted chamber, which is all that remains of the castle. It's pretty impressive in itself, even though you can't really see much above ground. Worth the visit to see the quarry and the vaulted room. Plus it's a wild and desolate place, which is pretty cool!
