Spent three nights with friends over the festive break. Really enjoyed our escape to this quiet place by the nature. The house itself is very cozy with all amenities, cooking utensils and logs for the fire provided. The host did call us to check whether all is good after the first night and overall seemed to be very welcoming and thoughtful (a lot of helpful notes through the house were a very cute detail). Although we would prefer to have a stable toilet seat rather than a note to say it wobbles... The area is very quiet and lovely. No car traffic just occasional dog walkers. You can hear the river outside the cottage if you open the window. The back garden has a very good BBQ potential. And the sky has no light pollution, so very bright stars on the clear nights. The kitchen has a small undercounter fridge and freezer of a same size. Fridge was a bit small for us, as we took a lot of food, nothing tragic, just something to be aware of. I especially loved that the cottage was nicely decorated for Christmas, with real Christmas tree in the dining area. Made us feel very festive. Big thanks to the host. The beds were comfy and we had very good sleep. However, if you're a sensitive sleeper, they do squeak quite a bit. Also one bedroom has no proper mirror, when the other one has two. Being an ex hotelier myself, the only aspect that I found below the expected level of a holiday let and somewhat concerning, was the cleanliness of the house. Some areas, not all. It was clear that the ground floor (stone flooring) has not been mopped for quite a while, the rugs on both floors were covered with dog hair too, also our towels had yellow stains the size of a palm. They weren't used, just need a complete change really.. I mopped the floor with a hot water just to see whether it is doable, and the difference made it clear, that the issue is to do with lack of attempt to make it clean, rather than anything else. Understanding it's a rural cottage, with muddy paths and pastures just outside the doorstep, we did not come to expect 5* cleanliness, but I see the issue to be rather with a complete lack of attention to certain areas, not a failed attempt. The floor did ruin my sock slippers somewhat, but not our stay. We went to escape the craziness of the covid reality, and it has totally worked for us. The company and the coziness of the place made us forget about all the modern C-19 madness we've left behind and for that we are grateful.
