After an hour's drive to Tenby my wife and I stumbled upon The Lounge Tenby in need of a caffeine hit and to freshen up. We noticed the sign saying that restrooms are for customers only, which I've always found a weird/unfriendly thing to post at the entrance (and unsure of the legality of such a sign when considering pregnant women's rights). However I understand how these things can be in a heavily touristic area, and we decided to proceed nonetheless. Upon arriving at the counter we felt rather unwelcome and the staff working there all looked miserable and seemed they would rather be elsewhere. I nonetheless proceeded to order a coffee (to go) and after this with a nod to the aforementioned sign, my wife enquired as to where the toilets were located. Owing to her subsequent facial expression, this clearly irked the elder lady serving us, who then proceeded to unilaterally increase the price of the coffee by 15% from that clearly advertised. I enquired as to why it was more expensive than the advertised price (again unsure if this could be a grey area legally) and the lady explained that "there's more of it if it's takeaway". I'm not sure exactly what there was more of (presumably hot water, as I'd ordered a black Americano) nonetheless felt that the lady was cynically increasing the price as we wanted to use the restroom, despite complying with their bathroom policy clearly stated at the entrance. I couldn't be bothered to continue the conversation so paid and waited for the coffee before leaving. The coffee was below average, which is fine, I wasn't expecting anything special, and would have been happy to pay a surcharge to use the restroom if this were clearly stated, however the elder lady server's attitude stunk. Pleasantries don't cost a thing and can make all the difference between success or failure in the hospitality business. I can only hope that this was a one off however wanted to share our disappointing experience for anyone who may be considering visiting The Lounge Tenby.
