Think very carefully before paying any money to this company!!! We decided to get a new front door and after looking at the Total Doors website, we were enticed by the very professional layout and 'design your door' feature. Having designed our door we paid a 90 deposit and were soon contacted by the company to arrange a pre start survey to take all the necessary measurements. During the survey the gentleman explained that because we live in a flat, we would instead need a fire door and he would have to send us a revised quotation. The price received was understandably more expensive than the standard door. Having spoken to the other three residents within our building, we decided to ask the company for a price to replace all the front and back doors on each flat within our building, totalling eight doors. When contacting the company to request a new price, they said that they would have to carry out another survey and that each survey would cost 20, which could be taken from our deposit should we not wish to proceed. Therefore, we accepted that having had two surveys in total, we would lose 40 if we didn't want to proceed. The gentleman came back over to survey and spent approximately five minutes taking external measurements of the doors. After receiving the new quotation, collectively we decided that the cost was higher than expected and we would not be proceeding with the work. We contacted the company to let them know and request a refund for the balance of the original deposit (50). The company said that because we requested a price for eight doors, the survey costs were actually 20 per door and that the total cost of the surveys was actually 160, but would not seek to claim this back from us and would retain the entire 90 deposit. Ah thanks Total Doors! As many do, we have had other companies quote to have fire doors fitted and this is the only company that have charged for a survey. Admittedly we agreed to foregoing 40 for not going ahead but in no way expected to be conned out of 90. While we're sure there are companies out there that are honest, this is not one of them. There are companies/trades that will come and speak to you face to face and go through your requirements without taking your money until you are completely happy. We have since visited the 'rated people' website and found a very good carpenter who fitted our doors at a very good price, and did not charge a bean until we were completely happy. Good luck!
