Looks, sounds and feels like a Gay Bar / Queer joint, BUT on asking the bar person if this the only gay place left in Swansea (haven't been home in a while), I was immediately and earnestly corrected that (friend of) "Dorothy's" is NOT in any way a gay place ACTUALLY, despite capitalising off queer culture like Drag Queens, rainbow flag coloured bottles behind the bar, advertising male stripper shows, FOUR very camp chandeliers, playing queer pop anthem after anthem (Kylie playing as I type). So either this place is "in the closet" OR it's culturally appropriating / stealing hard won Queer culture for profit. Probably the latter. So I guess there really are NO actual gay / queer bars left in Swansea, the second city of Wales. I guess Wales is no more a home for Queer folk than when I left. My (sadly passed away) friend and activist Alan Wakeman, who marched on the first London Pride and helped found the GLF, would be spinning in his grave at this place, if it weren't for the fact he was actually cremated. Disappointed and conned by Dorothy.
