The flooring began to get marks and scratch's within 48 hours and now every tile is covered in marks in less than 6 months. These marks range from severe to minor. When the first marks started to appear, there had been no accidents and nothing heavy had been moved across it, except the chairs. Any reasonable person would expect the tough flooring to be able to resist the simple everyday movement of a chair when sitting at the dinner table.
We have basically been told its accidental damage and the way we live, despite two reports showing we followed all the maintenance advice and highlighted no blame on us. They did arrange for two inspections, at no cost to us, which was good, but as far as they are concerned the floor is not faulty because it was advertised as "scratch-resistance", not "scratch-proof" and is fit for purpose. However on their website, under the "design" heading they stated it was covered in a scratch-proof layer. They have since removed this and claimed they have never said this
According to the website at time of purchase, Kardean Opus is classed as Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT). Upon checking the advice centre, the description is Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) flooring is the strongman of the flooring world theres simply no floor as tough. It then goes on to say: LVT flooring is made from PVC, which is what gives it that extra strength. It's 100% waterproof, can be used with underfloor heating and has a tough scratch-resistant wear layer. Like we said, theres no floor as tough!. There is also a handy diagram showing the scratch-resistant layer.
Had these marks appeared in an isolated incident, or several years later, I would accept the accidental damage or wear and tear argument, however I do not accept the quality of this product in the time frame it has been installed.
In their final e-mail to me, they said " If the tile picks up wear and tear over the years, its fairly easy to refinish the floor and bring it back to life." The key word here being "years", but this occurred over weeks/months. Also we tried using the 35 refresh kit after 2 months of it being down and their was not much improvement.
They also said " If you manage to somehow damage a tile beyond repair, it's often possible to simply replace the individual tile easily and cheaply. Well tell you all about that in our refinishing LVT section."
Replacing an individual tile may be easy, but not replacing the entire floor, thats expensive and not simple.
You may get a really good floor from this company, and you may get a really good Karndean floor, but for whatever reason, the Opus Mico SP211 is awful and I would not recommend it. You will just get fobbed off and I wish i'd have gone for a cheaper Vinyl, it would have lasted longer.
Despite having 100's of photos of the damage, no offer of compensation or any gesture was made.
