The Old Swan Tea Rooms

Had a great lunch here when there was no room at the inn(s). So wish I'd gone here first. Lovely customer service. Recommended.

OK experience. Walked in, no welcome or hello but eventually got told only to order what was in the counter in quite an abrupt manner. We didn't mind, we only wanted a hot drink and a cake. I was brought my tea and again told not to put the pot directly on the table in case it burned it. There was no warmth, no hospitality. Left at 3.30pm having just witnessed an older lady walk in for a cup of tea being told she would have to take away. Why? There was still time. Tried to use the toilet but they were being cleaned and shut down. Only passing through so no biggy but I'd be steering clear as a local. Cakes very average, good tea and coffee.

Stopped in for lunch, it was an excellent decision, The steak pie with stilton and chestnuts was amazing. The stilton was the perfect balance to the steak, and the crust was flakey and buttery. We finished the meal with a slice of caramel apple pie. The apples were crisp and flavorful, which paired very well with the caramel. Be aware they are cash only, but the food is well worth swinging by an ATM for.
