Don't get me wrong, the estate has always had some issues but Moorland & Broad mead Park was a great place to grow up. Loads of play areas, two playgrounds, like-minded people who looked out for there neighbours and had pride in where they lived. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. The Newport east councillors should be deeply ashamed of themselves for not just allowing the degradation of the estate but actually being the perpetrators. The reen area running through the estate used to be an extension to the play areas for local children to play hide and seek and go tadpole fishing, now if you could fight your way through the nettles and overgrowth all you would catch is a few rats and typhoid. The painted wrought iron railings that ran through the estate has been replaced with galvanised spiked fencing that is ugly, dangerous and has never been straight since it was erected. A big play field has been replaced with Newport east community centre. A small unit with a tiny unkept play area and big car park that is nearly always empty, surrounded by yet another spiked fence. What was once a great estate to grow up on has been abandoned by the council and lost its community spirit.
