I recently had to choose a solicitor to conveyance for a house sale in the Narberth area. I chose Darwin Bowie for two reasons: 1. They were the most expensive, which I assumed would bring with it a degree of competence. 2. They were local.
This turned out to be an awful decision.
My solicitor, Martin Everett, was incompetent at every turn. After 3 weeks of unnecessary delays, he had still not started the searches. He had, however, managed to send me a very confidential email about someone elses house sale including very private details about money invested, mortgages etc.
Two weeks after sacking Darwin Bowie, the draft contracts had still not arrived with my new solicitor. The seller informed me that they were sent to Darwin Bowie some time ago and that Martin had not bothered to either forward them to myself or my new solicitor, or let the seller's solicitor know Darwin Bowie were no longer acting on my behalf.
So, they might have a flash website, nice premises, and charge more than everyone else, but the incompetence shown by Martin Everett of Darwin Bowie has been beyond belief. I am now at risk of missing the stamp duty holiday deadline and losing a lot of money. Fortunately, my new solicitor is responsive and competent.
I would again urge people to avoid this solicitor at all costs.
