Played April 2023 with a bunch of friends. The front 9 were quite dull, the back were good with two holes having great views of black rock sands. The reception from the staff was poor and not at all friendly - we were clearly an inconvenience for them (an inconvenience of 75 each btw) and the pro shop lady had no interest in making us feel welcome. Wouldnt return as there are significantly better options in the area!

Excellent golf course with a tough Links back 9, professional and staff very accommodating and the clubhouse is where you'll want to finish off the 19th hole. Excellent food selection on the menu with the all day breakfast a bit hit for the hungry golfer.

Never normally one to write a review about a golf course but I felt compelled to do so after our round. We played here in April 2023. Course was in a good condition. The fairways were well looked after and the the greens ran well. The experience of the course was mixed. The front 9 is average and forgettable other than the signature par 3 6th hole which is to an island green. The back 9 was fantastic. The holes were interesting and the views were spectacular. The cost of the course was 75 each including a buggy. This may well be the going rate however it felt a little steep. The price of the golf was high, yet the hospitality we received was very low. Actually it was below low, it was non-existent. We were met with a frosty reception that clearly made us feel like we were not welcome and that the course was just for locals. The lady in the shop was not accommodating at all nor did she try to ensure that we had a good experience on the course. Even when we returned the buggy keys she didnt even ask how our round was. This is different to the other two courses we have played around these parts including Nefyn and Abersoch. The latter two golf clubs made us feel very welcome and it felt they could do anything for us. Such as explaining how to get to the holes, local rules and common mistakes visitors make to help hep us enjoy our round. Nefyn and Abersoch even explained the practise facilities and threw in some extra balls, tokens or time in the simulator to help us warm up. None of that was experienced at Portmadog Golf Club. It is a shame because the back 9 did have a special feel to it, however, for such an expensive round, I expected a better welcome for visitors. As a result, we will not be returning here again, but instead will opt to use Nefyn and Abersoch for our lads golf trip.
