After travelling all day from Spain, we could not get into the property as there was no clear instruction apart from a code number, which we applied without sucess. On informing the letting agent Sykes Cottages, they told us they would contact the owner and call us back. Nearly two hours later we were still waiting to hear from the owners. Only by a stroke of luck some one from the cottage next door assisted us, telling us it was difficult to do. Eventually we got in, but never heard from the owners or Sykes Cottages the whole time we were there. Sykes Cottages lied and said they telephoned us, funny there were no missed call messages on our phone. They also said they left a voice message, but forgot they sent us an email saying they could not leave a voice message. The cottage itself on first appearance looks good, however we were later to find out there are several things wrong. The mattresses are soft and extremely uncomfortable, gave us all, (our friends that stayed with us) back and body ache. None of us got a decent nights sleep as the heating came on at all hours of the day and night and which was uncontrollable. The toilet in the main double bedroom was only fit for a child as there was no space between the wall and the shower. The mirror over the sink was at waist hight, and over the dressing table was to high up on the wall, which could only be used standing up. The wooden stairs were steep and dangerous. The settee in the living room also gave us all backache as it needs replacing. We asked for compensation from the owners, mainly because of the problem getting into the property after a full days travel and no one contacting us to assist. They were not interested and dissagreed with our comments about the cottage itself. Seems the only thing they are interested in is taking our money. We never even got an apology from anyone about waiting nearly two hours for some one to help us enter the property. We were told, after complaing to the letting agency that the entrance lock to the cottage is a standard way for all cottages. If that was the case why could they not have informed us over the phone how to use the code to get into the cottage ? We had booked the same cottage for a month in August, needless to say we cancelled, and lost a great deal of money that was used as a deposit. I would never stay in this place again and I would say don't waste your money here. The owners don't care about your comments or the problems you will encounter, and don't even have the decency to apologise.
