Great way to reconnect to Rugby and meet some very friendly and welcoming people. Walking Rugby has all the enjoyment of Rugby but without the pain of scrums, rucks, mauls and tackles. Suitable for all ages and abilities this team really welcomes new people to join them on Mondays at 6.30 at Pontyclun RFC or Wednesday at 10am in Pontyclun Park. Get fit whilst having fun. Not only that but the team attend regular WRU festivals at grounds like, Cardiff Arms Park, Rodney Parade and even the Principality Stadium

I joined Pontyclun Walking Rugby after a visit to my GP who suggested that I should take more exercise. i found a group of very friendly and diverse people. Not having played rugby for 40 years I was concerned about my handling skills !!! Not to worry they are still sketchy!!! I really enjoy the friendships I have made. After 9 months I have lost weight and feel a lot better. All I want now is for a video ref to show NONE of my passes are forward.

Its been exactly 12 months since a group of men and one women got together in Pontyclun to play a strange new sport called walking football and walking rugby. We were all of mature years with varying degrees of experience. It ranged from none to a spell playing rugby in New Zealand. It was great fun from the first meeting with new friends being made that have lasted. Who would have thought that we would be playing at the Principality Stadium just six weeks later against teams from other parts of Wales and even had the great JPR Williams playing in our team. We still need new players, so if you fancy some fun on a Wednesday morning at 10 am, come and join us.

Since retiring, I've tried many activities to keep myself busy and fit but somehow they all seemed lacking in some way. However, when the opportunity came along to try walking rugby as a pastime I thought Id give it a go. Im glad I did. There are many reasons why it is worth considering. First, youre not expected to be brilliant at it - skills come with practise. Secondly, the people playing it are all about the same age range 50-70ish and not athletes. Thirdly there is a good camaraderie among the players - plus much banter and fun. Finally, there is a great sense of achievement - not only in practise but when we play in the mini tournaments against other teams. So come on boys and girls. Get out of the chair and check us out on Wednesday morning in Pontyclun park at 10am - you wont regret it.

I'm a bloke in my 70's who suffered a very serious accident in 2018 and a hip replacement exactly one year ago. After my recuperation I was looking for a way to get some fitness back and improve my balance. I didn't really fancy going to the gym a couple of times a week, although I can see that some might find that useful. But I decided to join the group, male and female, at Pontyclun Walking Rugby Club who meet in Pontyclun Park every Wednesday morning between 10.00 and 11.00. I was made very welcome from the beginning and enjoy our twice weekly sessions. As well as the practise days those members who wish to can take part in regular festivals of rugby. Here teams from all over South Wales and many from England play against each other. Apart from the important advantages of physical excersise, the extra important advantage to people, male and female who may be alone, is of socialising with others and making new friends. So to anyone of ANY AGE, ANY GENDER come along and watch or join in and give it a try.
