This is a popular hiking area. The historic tram roads traverse the mountain leading you around the mountain. Be sure to stay on known routes as there are bogs and sink holes on the mountain. This is a fantastic vantage point for photo opportunities. The Lonely Shepherd also known as Peaky Stone is a legendary story passed down through generations of a Shepherd who comes to life on Midsummer's Solstice to find his wife who did not return home one evening. The Shepherd was said to have wandered the mountain looking for his wife after her disappearance, it is thought she fell into the river Usk and drowned. The wife is represented by a strata rock near Crickhowell.
