Basel Cottage Holidays

This was our second time staying at Basel Cottage (family of 4 with two teenagers). This in itself is already a compliment because up until now we never went back to the same place for a holiday. On the last day of our first one-week holiday the teenagers asked if could go back the next year. We booked that same night for 2 weeks for the next summer. We were not dissappointed. We thoroughly enjoyed our second stay at Basel Cottage. A couple of reasons why:- - the beautiful spacious grounds - beautiful area with so many great walking trails - such an inviting and comfortable cosy cottage with so much attention to detail that makes your stay comfortable. (an extremely well equipped kitchen, small things like tissues in the living room and bedroom, games, drying rack , a basket with wood for the fire place, etc) - your own "information centre" in the cottage (leaflets for all sort of outings, binders with walking routes) - Sue and Jonah are such warm and welcoming hosts who want to make your stay as pleasant as possible. They offer helpful suggestions for activities and outings and at the same time really hounour the privace of their guests. They are welcoming and helpful in such a wonderful way. - Barney and Teddy (the dogs)- who were so willing to play with our teenagers - the beautiful terrace with a magnificant view - the cosy cabin in the woods- a favourite spot for one of our kids to read - onsite activities: in the 'games shed' you can find a dart board, mini pool table, table tennis table - Sue and Jonah keep innovating and improving: this year the small golfcourse was added and workshops in archery and air rifle shooting were new as well. We thoroughly enjoyed the day we took both of these workshops. Jonah is a great teacher! We loved his patience, calm and humour. Which made us feel at ease in learning new skills. Also Jonah's eye for the different strenghts each of us had was creating a wonderful learning atmosphere. We could really feel that Jonah loves teaching! We also took a glass workshop which Sue arranged for us just a 15 minute drive from the cottage. Which was a really lovely well spend day full of creativity! When we left this year we had two very sad kids. They did not want to leave. Back home they were homesick for Basel Cottages, Barney and Teddy and Sue and Jonah. We will return for a 3rd time in the coming year. And we are all very much looking forward to it! Thank you Sue, Jonah, Barney and Teddy

Cant wait to return here, it really is as amazing as the photos show. We regularly look after a friends dogs and looked for a holiday that theyd enjoy - they loved it! The grounds are perfect for long off-lead walks and zoomies. It rained a lot while we were there but it wasnt at all muddy, thanks to Jonah and his hard work maintaining the gardens. For us the cottage was very comfortable, rooms are all large and well equipped (the echo dot was a revelation, we ordered one as soon as we got home and now have four!) and the bed was wonderful - I slept better than I do at home. Hope to see you all again soon!

Wow, what a truly amazing time we had. Just back from a three night break (not long enough!!). Prior booking communications were excellent and informative. On arrival we were met by the lovely owners, Sue and Jonah and their gorgeous dogs, Barney and Teddy. Views are incredible, as are the 17 acres which our three Labs really enjoyed including a stream, bluebell wood, all secure and very well maintained. You can really be at peace that your dogs are safe and have so much freedom! The cottage was beautiful, everything you could possibly need, very clean, comfortable and spacious; Sue and Jonah really have thought of everything to make this a real home from home we certainly wished this was our home !!). Privacy was well respected and Sue and Jonah were on hand to have a chat with us and share invaluable information about the surrounding areas. Being very protective dog owners we had no worries when Sue and Jonah dog sat for us for a few hours. We would be back month after month if we could ! Thank you so much for sharing your cottage and 17 acres to give us a little taster of what we thought was paradise. Kirsty, Pete, Honey, Annie and Foster x
