We pulled out of our purchase at Maes Rheithordy in Cilgerran as the final straw is hidden in the small print of the Freehold Land Registry Document. All residents have to pay on demand an equal share of the costs to maintain and repair a privately managed backup soak away drainage system.
Mill bay said these charges would be "minimal" but would not confirm or place a cap on this "minimal" value.
For example if a repair bill came to say 25,000.00 and there were 25 properties affected, each household would HAVE to pay 1000.
Our solicitor advised that this could have a negative impact on the future re sale of the property.
Given that the area is prone to frequent flooding with surface water running off the adjacent fields, down the farm track and onto the main road, I think we had a lucky escape after pulling out of the purchase of one of their properties
