Visited for the first time for a Saturday brunch and we were impressed! My husband and myself had the full breakfast, all cooked perfectly and was delicious, nice to see home made baked beans! Other members of our group had the French toast which looked beautiful and another member had the continental-ish which also looked great. We had tea and coffee, service was prompt and friendly. No faults, look forward to returning soon! Thank you Fredwell.

Not only was the food below average- the attitude of the owner was deplorable and I am sorry to add to an ever growing list of bad reviews. Here is a summary of our first and final trip to Fredwells. - Coffees very slow- came after our meal and only after we reminded them we were waiting for coffee. Juice also has been ordered and we had to remind them about that too. - - The Breakfast- raw mushrooms and no bacon- the owner said he took the breakfast out too early and that bacon was coming (bacon was about another 7 mins). They had obviously forgotten- just be humble and admit your error. Sausages poor quality and clearly had been sitting under a heat lamp. - - The French toast - just awful. Two slices of dry sourdough with supermarket frozen berries that were still cold and some syrup. No cream as advertised on the menu. - I complained about the French toast and the waiter took the plate away. Nobody came to offer an explanation, apology, or an alternative dish. My partner finished his meal and we got up to leave. - As we were leaving I was told the manager was going to come and speak to me. I waited a few minutes and the manager did seemingly nothing in the back room, before coming out- VERY stand offish. - I have worked in service and if a customer is unhappy I would expect the management to be very apologetic/humble, and do everything they can to make the situation right. Bad days happen in hospitality and if this has been dealt with differently maybe I wouldnt be feeling so bitter. Instead, the owner pretended to listen to me explain, made an excuse about forgetting the bacon and cream, and then asked me to explain all over again my specific issue with the French toast. - He then stared at me in silence, looking at me as if to say what do you expect me to do about it?. I said I assumed he was the manager (he corrected me- Im the owner of the gaffe) and I was waiting to hear what his resolution was as Id already paid for the meal. - He offered me a 10 gift voucher. I declined as Im not local and certainly wouldnt be coming back. - He offered me a refund on the coffees- I declined, stating I wanted a refund on the meal. He argued back that the coffees would be worth more than the 12 French toast??? - He eventually agreed to give me a refund of my meal and said the money would be back in my account within 10-15 mins. 90 mins later I am still waiting. REPLY TO HIS REPLY: Im wasting my time with this deluded owner but its really rubbed me up the wrong way how he deals with bad reviews, and hopefully the multiple exchanges hes having with paying customers giving helpful feedback are entertaining to potential punters. Mate- youre a liar! A waiter was back and forth from our table sorting out our various issues- how do you know at what point we said the dish was missing bacon? It was way more than 5 Mins- stop lying. The food wasnt entirely eaten, i didnt even eat half of my French toast as I raised the issue pretty quickly- you were just too cowardly to come and confront me abojt it! There is NO way it was 3 minutes and 11 seconds between raising there was no bacon and it arriving. My partner had to stop eating my meal so that it didnt arrive to an empty plate. French toast cant be exactly as described if it says it comes with cream and it didnt. If by wet dog he means wet paws from walking across a wet car park, he needs to get a grip. Hes a black lab - there is no chance he would leave a single treat on the floor. Also still waiting for the refund!
