Really impressive! Passed through Chepstow during our Easter Holiday and stumbled upon this magnificent piece of history. Since then, I was doing some research and this town gate has a lot of interesting history. It was built between 1272 and 1278 by Roger Bigod III, Earl of Norfolk. It functioned both as a defensive structure and a means of controlling movement and trade throughout Chepstow. Its stands tall as a monument of national importance and enhances our knowledge of medieval defence architecture and urban development. Definitely take some time to read about its importance during history! Its still very well preserved and open to all locals and tourists alike.

In the centre of the Welsh Town of Chepstow you will see this lovely archway....It was originally the entrance to the town through what was then the port wall acting as a toll way to let people in to the old town and market...It was built in the late 13th century within the wall which no longer exists with the arch but can still be seen in parts of the town, the archway now dates from the 16th century having been restored on many occasions...This is a very historical place to look around with its lovely old castle etc to look at...This place is well worth a visit....
