Beautiful historic building, being an MA student in Arts, I really do appreciate the heritage of the Friends Arms. It use to have a wonderful atmosphere, I remember years ago, Mark the previous landlord, a fantastic publican, keeping the pub inclusive, sociable and friendly. Put a lot in to updating the pub with local real ales, etc. Unfortunately, the last time we celled there, few months ago (one time particularly my Father's Birthday) there was new landlord, he had a measly manner, he came across unreasonably prejudiced against towards some costumers. My Parents and I witnessed his callousness and feeling uncomfortable, we left straight away.!! A real shane, he was short in stature, red faced and came across as a bigot. Don't doubt this will see the decline in costum and atmosphere. Other friends I've asked, explained they'd had similar experiences and have recently stopped visiting there also. If you are looking for a traditional pub to visit, in the area I recommend The Drovers Arms, or Boar's Head in the towns main street. If your a student, I recommend The Popular's, it is close by.

Rude and judgemental landlord, didn't feel welcome. He seemed very biased and I witnessed him being rather unpleasant to a lady costumer.
