I cant tell you what theyre like as counsellors, because after a 12 months of being on their waiting list I didnt get offered any counselling. I attended an initial introductory evening on my mums birthday, i said I didnt want to go as my mum had just died suddenly in front of me and this was her first birthday, but was told it was in my best interests to attend. I sat in a room with others sobbing as we sat through a brief introduction and then waited to speak to a counsellor. They did a brief form filling exercise, deemed me not in high need and sent me off in sept telling me it would be after Christmas. In April the next year I emailed asking what was happening, was told I was still on waiting list, despite saying I was open to group therapy whilst waiting for individual counselling. I was finally offered counselling a year after i registered with 10 other people in a group setting. I declined. They should have told me what the waiting list times were honestly as i wouldnt have gone on my mums birthday and would have paid for proper counselling rather than wasting my time waiting for Cruse. It took two years after my mums death to begin to feel normal and I definitely recommend counselling, but dont waste your time thinking youll get help from Cruse or even GP counselling.
