Daves gym is a very special place in Cardiff. In a world all about being instagramable and paranoid about safety, Daves gym stands unashamedly as a bastion of masculinity. Not that youd be out of place being a woman, but this is where people come who are serious about getting stronger and improving, not just giving the impression they are on social media. It can be intimidating with the minimalist decor and the serious individuals, but actually theres a really nice atmosphere and Dave, and the rest of the team, are very friendly. He was super helpful in helping me get a PB on bench. The range of equipment is great, with weights for every level, and youll never have to queue for a squat rack. Although it must be said that some of the equipment is ropey. The price for a membership is very good, although you wont get a lot of the thrills that may come with more commercial gyms. If youre serious about getting stronger and improving, look no further than Daves gym.

This gym is good if your focus is strength gain because there are many free weights there but besides that it's really no reason to go there. The membership cost 31.50 that's fine but this gym open really late and close 9pm Monday - Friday and worse in the weekend 11am-4pm. No changing room, no shower in this gym. They recently announced they will be closed 4 days during Christmas and their reason is the gym nemebers should take the opportunity to bulk up! Not sure which kid said that but let me tell you when bulking up you need to train hard too! The gym will be re-open on the 28 December but will only open 1pm-9pm then close again on 31 December and 1st January!! Aso there are only 7 cardio machines upstairs and most of them don't function properly. Some of the personal trainers obviously inexperienced with compound lifts. One of them couldn't even deadlift properly- I saw one of them bent his arms when deadlifting. I thought as a personal trainers he should know that deadlifting with arms bent can cause bicep tear, it's common knowledge. He couldn't even do lat pull downs right. It only take a few months to become a personal trainers so don't expect all personal trainers are expert in fact many of them have no idea what they are doing. The advices written in the gym was ridiculous lol I'd suggest you do your own research instead of taking their laughable advice (it sounds like it was written from someone inexperience and obviously too lazy to do proper research before putting it there) There are Loads of great training and nutrition advice online you just need to find good reputation authors/coaches. Had enough of this gym we will join a 24/7 gym next week.
