What a great tour , really interesting . Great guides who were really helpful and professional. Amazing building a bit like Dr Who's Tardis bigger on inside than the outside.

I allowed a bit too much time to get there in time for the tour so had to wait outside for a little over half an hour. I was amazed at how close the building was to Cardiff Central Station, less than 100 feet. I had visited Cardiff many times over the previous 3 years and had passed BBC Cymru as I went to rugby games. All the staff were friendly and I think there were 19 in total that went on that particular tour. We were advised to leave coats on a stand before going around the place due to the heat in the building. A good idea. That stand was locked away whilst we were on the tour. Three tour guides showed us around the place. I opted to use all the lifts available as there were a lot of steps. I didn't want to slow the group. We reached the top (4th) floor and were told that on occasion other groups hadn't got so high. It is clear to imagine a larger group spending more time at a particular point of interest. We first entered a large studio area which could be separated from the one next door by a soundproof screen. We progressed through a room which was used for broadcasting radio programmes where actors supposedly moved between rooms. The correct sounds of footsteps were achieved by walking across different floor coverings. Impressive. Along the way we saw a control room where one member of staff could see what was being broadcast on different channels for a live football match. It was explained how they could deal with a breakdown in output from any camera or channel. By chance I alone got to get a chat with that member of staff just after I had left the building. It was a most impressive tour which I think was run three times per day. You don't have to be a fan of t.v. to appreciate this tour. I haven't watched t.v. since 2006 and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. I had liked my first view of the building from a platform at the train station. A 180 degree video took in the BBC Cymru building and some of the old Brain's Brewery buildings on the other side of the station. What a lovely welcome to Cardiff.
