Really fun quirky little store that did us a delicious breakfast! Left my scarf there and the owners kindly posted it back. Great vibes, exactly the off-the-beaten track place you hope to stumble upon.

I really love this place. You should go! Immediately. Now! If you ask nicely, you can get cheese added to your breakfast sandwich and its definitely worth it :)

This is such a hard review to make as we really wanted to love the place which we had heard about for a while. We visited today for lunch and after a few minutes greeted by a lovely lady who really was the best aspect of our experience. We ordered a cocktail each which was lovely albeit a tad on the pricier side but we were happy to pay. The big problem came with the food. First choice (a blt sandwich) was not available due to issues with tomatoes and salad. Not a problem., we proceeded to order a Welsh rarebit (i.e. a fancy cheese on toast, saying this as we perfectly knew what we were ordering). That arrived after a good 15/20 minutes wait (we were the only people there) and it was the biggest disappointment. I hope I can attach a picture to show what came for a price tag of 8 each. We were planning to get a coffee there too but we gave up after seeing the prices. A latte comes at 3.40, compared to 3 for Ty Melin in Wellfield Road and 2.60 for Bruno's in Alfred Street. I am sorry as even with an appreciation for the different quality that an independent place brings, the prices are absolutely unjustified. We are talking here of a small place tucked away in a small side street in Roath, how can a coffee cost that much more than other independent places which will pay higher rent as in higher footfall area? At the moment of paying, they also automatically include a 12.5% discretionary service charge. So basically they asked us to pay 36 pounds for 2 alcoholic drinks and 2 welsh rarebit. In fairness they took the service charge off as soon as I pointed it out, but we were just shocked by the pricing. Hopefully they have a better pricing system in place for their events rather than their standard menu but needless to say we will not be back. Really a shame as we really really wanted to be able to support this. Edit. Thanks to the owner for the comprehensive reply. I appreciate your point of view where you feel you provide good quality food but we will have to disagree on whether that welsh rarebit is worth the price tag. I am not sure I would call a heaped teaspoon of onion marmalade a "generous dollop" either. Just to point out that the wait in itself would have been fine if the food had been up to expectations but waiting 15 minutes to be served with a slice of store bought bread (even as nice as the Pettygrew bakery is) with a small topping of melted cheese and cream seems excessive (both in time and price). Wishing you all the best regardless.
