Took my car in for an MOT and service last Friday. On arrival I should have seen the warning signs as the mechanic (not sure if it was the owner or not) kept talking about how it was Friday and he didn't intend on doing much work and was going to close early at 2pm. I had booked this MOT and service over a week prior so there's no reason he couldn't have booked me in for a different day or at least told me this on the phone if he doesn't like to do actual work on a Friday. The car failed it's MOT on a list of items which is fine, I wasn't expecting it to fly through as it's a fairly old car. What was incredibly irritating was how the mechanic wouldn't fix or do any repairs on my car or even provide any advice such as "a, b and c could be fixed at a normal garage but d might need specialist input". Furthermore the repairs required are all fairly straightforward items (brake pads, headlight adjustment, tyres, exhaust leak) and not exactly anything requiring some sort of super mechanic to fix. I've owned cars for 16 years and on some occasions had more than one car, I have also moved around a lot so have used many different garages over the years and this is the first time I've ever been to one that wouldn't actually repair any of the issues. It was also the least professional and least helpful garage I've ever been to in all these years. If I had been informed prior to taking the car for the MOT that the mechanic wouldn't do any repairs to get it through the MOT I would have taken it literally anywhere else and saved myself 50 and a complete waste of time. As it stands I will now need to take the car to a proper garage who actually repairs cars instead of just pointing out what's wrong them and then deciding to clock off early. It's a shame as I'm fairly new to the area and was just hoping to find a decent garage to start using on a regular basis as I'm intending on having quite a lot of work done this year. Maybe I should consider myself lucky it failed the MOT so I know not to use this garage for any work as they seem like cowboys.
