This house is off the beaten track, in the middle of gorgeous countryside and within easy reach of great coastal walks, beaches, boat trips, 4x4 driving, nature reserves etc. The kitchen is well equipped and the house absorbs 16 people without really noticing as it's that large! The hot tub is the best I've ever been in - just the right temperature and lots of different jet options. This is very different from your average large house for family gatherings in good and less good ways. On the less good, the cleaning standard is more friend's house than polished holiday let. All the vital areas were spotless (kitchen and all equipment within, bathrooms, dining table etc) but some wall hangings, fireplaces, corners and light fittings were quite dusty and mildly spidery. The decor was 'faded grandeur' style with knockabout paintwork and a couple of slightly cracked window panes. The main bathroom was on the tatty side of vintage with a rather flexible, bouncy feel underfoot! The loft rooms didn't get enough air as the windows didn't open much or at all so it felt a little damp with touches of mould in high places. A couple of the loft room mattresses were a little thin. The main floor bedrooms were nice and airy with comfy beds and lovely views. It was lovely having the animals around (and the gorgeous well kept lawn areas they couldn't get to) but for dog owners, the donkeys vigorous defence of their territory from dogs was a bit off-putting and meant that our local dog walks started with a trip in the car to the gates 300m away where the donkey territory ended! The active dairy farm next door gave entertainment with the herd trekking past twice a day and machinery rumbling past. The children liked the play area. The sitting out areas and the picturesque shingled roof lean to for the hot tub were a delight. The parking was plentiful, unloading was easy. Both Tesco and Asda could find the house for deliveries. The people I met - the lady for the welcome and the fella sorting out recycling etc were pleasant and chatty. Remember your bath and kitchen towels, loo roll and dishwasher tablets! There was a starter amount of consumables - easy to forget to order more. On the whole this quirky place was a good find.
