This is simply one of the nicest bed and breakfasts you are going to find anywhere. certainly in scotland, quite possibly the UK. the hillside setting is peaceful and exquisitely beautiful. the house itself is charming, warm and ... bucolic? that sounds maybe too rustic. it is old and authentic for sure, but it is also very modern and comfortable. rob and nanette have threaded the needle and their home is a perfect balance of rural simplicity and contemporary comfort. beyond the building, the hosts just get it and they seem to genuinely love what they do. they do a good job of reading their guests and you'll get as much conversation or quiet as you want. def five stars. bonus points for the tea cakes and the oatmeal. nanette bakes like my mom (I have no higher praise) and while rob is maybe a bit over proud of his porridge, once you taste it you'll forgive him. it's a revelation.

Rooms: The room was spacious and had a comfortable bed . Our room and adjoining sitting room was very quiet with an amazing view. Food & drinks: Breakfast was made to order and provided very early to accommodate our departure. Very tasty .

Rooms: Elegant yet cozy. Beautiful decor. Nearby activities: Hiking, gardens, and we went swimming at nearby hotel that gave day passes. Good restaurants nearby. Great woolen shop nearby. Walkability: Yes, trails all around. Can also walk on roads if preferable. Food & drinks: Loved the Scottish breakfasts. Coffee superb and afternoon tea much appreciated. So much attention to detail!! Noteworthy details: The B& B is situated in a farm area so horses in pasture are below the front of the house. Being up on a hill, the view was immense.

We are so pleased we treated ourselves to a 4 night stay at Cruickshanks over Easter. The garden suite provided space and privacy, with luxury personal touches like a fire upon arrival and a delivery of cupcakes each day. Rob and Nanette are just wonderful. Rob's local knowledge of walking and cycling in Arran really helped us to navigate options and make the most of our stay, whilst also taking the weather conditions into account. They stored our bikes for us, kindly bundled away our wet clothes at the end of a soggy cycle, and showed genuine interest in our activities. They even kept us updated on ferry fiascos on our day of departure - much appreciated. The breakfasts set us up well for the day, and we enjoyed the cooked Scottish breakfast (especially the black pudding), Nanette's muesli, Rob's jam and the quality loose tea. We felt thoroughly treated, many thanks again.
