5 stars for the food too. Nice Lodge on the edge of the Loch. 1 hour or so on the coach from Fort William. Rooms were comfortable and very clean. Evening meal was excellent. I had a starter of ' hen of the woods' ( foraged mushroom) which was delicious. Breakfast was fine.

Food & drinks: My review is concerning our restaurant experience on the 9th April 23. We didn't stay at the hotel, so I won't say anything about that. In summary, our food was not well cooked, and one dish was hugely overpriced. The serving staff were very nice and did their best to accommodate us and I hesitate to write a bad review on account of that, but I felt given our experience of the food that some feedback was warranted. We had 2 starters and 2 mains. My 'hen of the woods' starter was delicious and well cooked and the highlight of our experience, but my whilst my partner's Cullen skink was generously full of fish and flavoured well, the soup itself was thin and not thick like it should be so a little disappointing. The mains were the real issue, though, as my partner's vegan dish, consisting of a meat substitute with accompanying vegetables, was overcooked, hard, and almost inedible. My main, priced at 24.95, was described on the menu as 'scallops with black pudding and celeriac puree'. Given that the previous day we'd had a pot full of scallops, smoked fish, mussels, clams and langoustines for 22, what I got appeared to be a single seared scallop cut into about 6 pieces and arranged on the plate, with 3 slices of black pudding and a few smears of celeriac puree. It would have been an appropriate starter for maybe 10 as there was nowhere near enough food to justify its price, and this is not an a la carte menu. I complained and was told I could have something else or the price could be reduced to 19. Still hugely overpriced, in my honest opinion. How they justify the price of such a dish is unclear to me given that it isn't a fine dining restaurant or producing exceptional food. I opted to eat it as I really hate sending food back for it to go to waste, and It genuinely was tasty, to its credit, but left me feeling a bit cheated. Given the price of the food, I would expect a lot better of both our dishes. I would also urge the hotel to rethink this dish. It feels as though it's a rip-off, even at the reduced price.
