We (2 adults + 3 kids) visited 14 Aultgrishan holiday cottage for a 2 week holiday. Firstly the cottage is situated in such an idyllic location and we spent hours just sitting outside looking out across the water! The cottage itself was clean, tidy and well equipped. Furthermore, all communications with the owner Linda were straightforward making the booking process + getting check-in details etc. easy. We would highly recommend the cottage to others looking to visit this lovely part of Scotland!

Firstly let me say that the property is well proportioned in terms of space. Living room and kitchen are a good size. The kitchen has plenty of utensils, pots and pans as well. However there were some thins that for us were not quite ok. Arriving, you have to drive up a reasonably steep incline to get to the cottage. I wouldnt want to tackle this if there was a frost on the ground. A couple of weeks prior to our stay we were informed that due to COVID-19 that some soft furnishings had been removed. We have stayed at other cottages since all of this started and not found the same thing so maybe it is just something this owner has decided to do. On entering the property we found this meant that there were no curtains in any of the rooms and blinds put in place in the bedrooms, but nothing in the kitchen or living room. This meant that at night, when it got dark, you could not close curtains or pull down blinds in these areas which for us felt a bit strange. Not so cosy. Also while you are not directly overlooked, but from the kitchen you are partially overlooked by some caravans a little further up the hill so privacy at night when you turn the kitchen light on is not ideal. Also, when we booked the cottage we saw a lovely window seat in the living room with a padded cushion on it and imagined sitting there looking out to sea. However this cushion had been removed leaving a hard wooden surface. After sitting there for a couple of minutes we decided to go back to the sofas. On the sofas cushions had been reduced to one per sofa as well. We were also informed that there was an increased cleaning regime which we thought was great. However, when we arrived, my wife ran a bath and lets just say, it was not clean. Some hairs floated to the surface (not from someones head!!) and the sides of the bath were also dirty. We decided to clean the bathroom and kitchen surfaces for our own peace of mind. We did inform the owner who did apologise. Apparently they use a 3rd party to do the cleaning. The crazy thing was, is that there is a cleaning checklist and the bathroom had been ticked as being cleaned, but it definitely wasnt. The heating is via storage heaters but these are not in all rooms and we found ourselves having to top up with using electric heaters at night. This may be why you have to pay for electricity separately via a deposit scheme with the first 10 being free, and you pay for the rest. Overall we had a pleasant stay but the cleanliness and sparcity of soft furnishings did not make it feel as comfortable as we saw in the pictures on the website when we originally booked earlier in the year.
