Dene Cottage is beautifully situated. The landscape from the window has a wild and unkempt feel. Long may it remain so as far too many places are tidied up nowadays. That rough ground with tall grasses and marshy places makes me think of John Clare and what he wrote about the landscapes of the early 19th century much further south where he lived in Northamptonshire. It is a joy to sit in this little bungalow and see the Hen Harrier or the Short Eared Owl gliding past the window. The snipe can also be seen performing its wonderful aerial displays making that marvellous sound as the wind rushes through its feathers. It is a place of simplicity and peace. I hope others will enjoy it as much as my partner and I have on our repeated visits.
