From the minute I walked into Instabillie, I knew that I was somewhere special. The croft has been completely renovated, to a high specification, in an extremely sensitive manner. It is light, airy and spacious, providing quality accommodation for up to five guests. The corridors are wide, the bedrooms cosy and the kitchen/diner/lounge (with small conservatory) have open aspect views across fields to the beach at Skara Brae and the cliffs beyond. There is a wood-burning stove for cosy evenings in, but there is also underfloor heating, throughout the building, which can be temperature-controlled from each room. Only about five miles from the centre of Neolithic Orkney, Instabillie provides an excellent base for exploring the islands. Karen had left us a welcome pack of Orkney produce, including cheese, biscuits and beer, as well as some eggs laid by her hens. Everything was perfect!
