The castle is wonderful. However if you are thinking of staying in winter I would advise caution. The heating is only on 8am to 8pm, and with negative temperatures outside this made for an extremely cold time in the evening and at night. The fireplace in the great hall was fine, but only heated the one room. Getting hot water was also pretty hit and miss. But...it's a 1700s castle, so you have to accept that it won't be "all m9d-cons"! Also, the beds were very comfortable and the duvet was lovely and warm.

We came here with my family from the USA in order to visit Lickleyhead Castle which was once the home of my uncles great grandmother. Built in the 1600s I believe. We stayed 2 nights in theeast wing which has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and a darling kitchen, a lovely dining room for 14 people and a fireplace room. James Davies, the proprietor, was kind enough to give us a tour of the west wing also which is a 6 bedroom , 6 bath magical home with a spiral staircase and turrets, fireplaces and a chapel and a piano room. The beds were very comfortable and the blankets heavy and warm for the cool nights. The owners have managed to preserve the original decor and style while having modern upgrades and conveniences so that everyone can be comfortable. The place felt like a castle. The property sits on 9 acres and has two creeks and a rose garden and a patio with a grill. It is located about 2.5 hours from Edinburgh in a small but not remote county of Insch. We hired a bagpiper as a surprise for my uncle who was reveling in his Scottish heritage. This place would be great for family reunions or events in the summer.
