Really well maintained, peaceful walk. The graveyard has stones dating from the early 18th Century to modernity. It contains the graves of 3 Covenanter martyrs. It also has the graves of many famous Strathaveners (the Taylor family for example (spelt Tayler back then), still bakers in the town till this day. The war memorial offer stunning views over the town and surrounding farmland. Theres a nearby memorial to James Purlie Wilson, a 19th century socialist on the site of his house; his grave in the old part of the graveyard has recently been restored.

If you're into local history I always find a walk around the cemetery fascinating. Strathaven cemetery is no exception. It basically has 3 sections. The old part with graves/memorials dating back to the 17th century, or earlier. The medium part, largely from the early to late 20th century, though there occasionally new burials there today, and the modern section, outside the walled area. Of particular note are the graves of 3 martyrs from the covenanting era and that of James 'Purley' Wilson, a radical reformer executed in Glasgow in 1820 for his part in the Scottish insurrection of that year. Another monument to Wilson is found outside the cemetery on the former site of his home.
