I can't fault the estate owners or the staff here they were accomodating and understanding. I would also not recommended staying in the winter though. We were staying in lower bruntlands and it was very very cold in the property on the first night. We lit the fire and it took 2 hours of that being on to stop seeing our breath. We all slept in jumpers and with hot water bottles but that shouldn't have been necessary. At first we called the reception only to be told they were on annual leave and the emergency number wasn't answered. We finally contacted the estate owners and they sent someone down to fix the heating. This made it a bit better but still cold enough that it never felt comfortable. We also had the fire on when we were there in the evenings. The shower is also a bit finicky so you have to figure that one out. The upstairs bedroom doesn't have any door which means it is directly opening into an upstairs sitting area with the stairs leading in to it. It therefore does not offer any privacy and the green fire light illuminates the whole upper floor meaning it doesn't get dark in there. The lack of door also lets the heat out, although the upstairs was the warmest part of the house as a result of a movable radiator. If you are going at any point where it is very wet or very cold and snowy I would say you need a 4x4 or something similar. The road is a proper farm track with no paving and mud. This meant when we first arrived we skidded around the corner which was unsettling arriving in the dark. When is snowed the road became very dangerous. The hill was not passable unless you were confident to really push it. Again the estates staff came down, dug through the snow, laid grit and towed our car up. This was good of them, but in anticipation of bad weather it would have been good to have gritted or cleared the road the night before. The website says a car with clearance, but it'd be ideal if you had a 4x4. The kitchen is new but doesn't have a freezer, and the rest of the house is a little outdated. It has some strange perks that are interesting to spot like the fact the ceiling lights are not in the centre of any room! The area is nice, and the family are lovely. I would stay again in the summer if it wasn't cold but never in the winter.
