Abhainn Dearg Distillery

I hate giving low ratings but I feel this deserves it. They have been waiting for new tanks since 2019 so havent produced since then (its now 2023) the tour consists of a small warehouse of unconnected equipment that looks like its never produced anything. Hate to say it, but total tourist trap.

Loved it. A friendly knowledgeable host who took us on a tour of this small distillery. Unfortunately not a working site at the moment as they are waiting for replacement equipment but two drams are offered in the price and very nice they were too.

We were able to get a last minute tour scheduled easily, which was nice. The tour was around 30 minutes which was nice and speedy, but I had hoped for more details on the unique aspects of this distillery as compared to the more general type of information we got. I expected a bare bones raw operation, and that's what I got! Important to note that barrels are not blended for a consistent branded taste, so your sample may vary from your purchased bottle. I felt that the four samples I had were all good. The three cask strength and second filled bottles really made the basic 10 year seem boring. While this whisky is good, it's not 95 or 75 pound good for me. The prices are typical of small independent newer operations however, so I'm not surprised. Full disclosure, I did still buy a couple bottles. I like what they are trying to do and I like their commitment to agressive experimentation such as their desert/sweet wine second filled cask strength bottle. I expect that over more time these guys will get better at their craft, and I'm excited to see what else comes out!

Very authentic and full of character. Much better than big slick distilleries. Tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Totally recommend thevtour

Fantastic tour and Whisky tastings. We arrived a little late and the team kindly let us join the tour late and ran through everything we had missed. As someone who doesnt care much for whisky (my other half loves it) this was still really interesting and I even found one I liked in the tasting. The guy doing the tour was the main distiller and made it all engaging and happy to answer any questions - he reminded us of the song Whiskey Moon by Mad Dog Mcrea.
