        (Translated by Google) Scalloway Castle is located in the small town of Scalloway. It was built in 1599 by Earl Patrick Stewart with inspiration from the already existing palace in Orkney. Scalloway was the capital of Shetland at the time. With the death of its lord the castle suffered a rapid decline. The stones surrounding the keep were used to build a farm nearby. Only in 1908 was it brought under the Scottish State and under Historic Scotland. At the moment it is not possible to visit it. Works in progress.
