(Translated by Google) Wandering the narrow streets of Scalloway stands a splendid sculpture in memory of 'The Shetland Bus 1940-1945'. On April 9, 1940, German forces invaded Norway. The country was unprepared and they soon fell into enemy hands. King Haakoon VII with his family and government exiled to London. Thousands of Norwegians fled on fishing boats to continue fighting to liberate Norway. Thus "The Shetland Bus" was born to help the resistance group left in Norway.
