We stayed at Askernish for three nights in early November and cant wait to go back. Joy lives up to her name and was just delightful to chat with over breakfast or in passing in the afternoon and evening. She provided some helpful tips for getting around the small island with its small roads and insights to some of the distilleries and eateries, and breakfast was never disappointing! The beds in our room were the most comfortable of the 4 places we stayed during our trip across the UK, the radiators worked well, the bathroom was spacious with large tub, and the views out the windows looking out over the water were a wonderful way to start the day. The B&B is easy to get to from the airport or ferry, and just a few minutes walk to several eateries and the local co-op grocery store. I really cant say enough good things about our stay, and thisll be the first place I look the next time we venture to Islay! NOT related to Joy or the Askernish B&B, do be aware that flights in and out of the island to Glasgow are not frequent; just 2 a day on weekdays, and only one on Sundays; if theres a delay or cancellation, you might be stuck on Islay until the next day. Keep this in mind when making travel plans, especially for connecting flights.

Joy was a very nice host. Our room and bathroom were quite big and upon arrival we had a view of a full rainbow across the bay in front of the B&B. She recommended what time we should eat breakfast so we could make it to our first distillery tour. The B&B is directly next door to the Islay Hotel where we had dinner and they do live music a couple nights a week. Extremely convenient to the Port Ellen ferry.
