I had 2 experiences with Elizabeth Yule bus service. The first was a quick much welcomed ride into Pitlochry from the Killiecrankie Visitor Centre. This ride garnered the 2 stars because the second experience left me stranded and eventually 50 out of pocket and my planned day completely disrupted.
I was to take the 82 bus from Pitlochry to Kinloch Rannoch and then a Dial A Bus to Rannoch station for the train to Fort William. It was to leave from Fishers Hotel at 8:50AM. Shortly before that, a bus pulled up across the street from where I was sitting, and I started out across the street and when the driver looked at me, I asked him if he was going to Kinloch Rannoch and he shook his head so I returned to my seat and off he went. Turns out he was going to Kinloch Rannoch. After much panic and stress, with no one answering the phone at Elizabeth Yule as it was a Saturday, I ended up with a private car hire who took me to Rannoch train station. It was not in time however for me to get to Fort William in time to go to the West Highland Museum which was the reason I was going there. The museum is not open on Sunday, so my planned visit was a bust.
At the time, I had a few Facebook messages from someone at the bus company, who said that they would investigate and if there was fault on the drivers part, there could be a refund for the taxi service. After they spoke to the driver, he said he did not understand what I asked him. He did not however make any attempt to question me or ask for clarification.
I recently reached out to the person at Elizabeth Yule to see about full or partial payment of the taxi, but to date, I have had no response even though the message has been seen.
This is NOT at all the Scottish hospitality I witnessed over my 5 weeks touring all over Scotland. I will not use this negative experience to taint what was otherwise a wonderful trip, but I will warn others to make sure to get clear answers from the bus drivers even if you have to ask a few times.
