Dunollie is a sweet place. The old castle offers a particularly splendid view south down the Argyll coast. The information boards are good around the castle. The 1745 House is limited in its space and artifacts however the photographs taken by Hope are startlingly modern in there subject - more on this would have been very welcome. The wee cafe is friendly and the food is tasty...outside eating area is very good. Retail is always difficult in these places and I often think they should be much better but it is a hard space to make work.

This place is an absolute gem and makes for a great day out if you are in the Oban area. The staff are great and you can see that they put a lot of effort and love in maintaining the place. Have a walk around Dunollie House with its interesting displays, wander around the garden with its unusal plants and very own Redwood tree and treat yourself to a piece of cake and coffee from the cafe. The views from the Castle are breathtaking. You can see right over to Kerrera and Mull. I sat there for hours, reading my book and watching the ferries come and go. I also took a tour which is included in the entry fee. Our guide Jamie was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the history of the MacDougall Clan and the area. It was great fun and I really enjoyed it. :) Entry fee is 9 pounds. However, this is valid for a whole year. Which means you can return as often as you want which makes this a very reasonable price. This place is magical. I highly recommend coming here. Take your time to explore, its worth it! :)
