A quirky fun holiday. Carriage will appeal to railway fans and probably best suited to slightly shorter, slim people but my 6foot 2 husband found it easier to cook on the rings which were slightly too high for me at 5 foot 6. It poured with rain nearly the whole time we stayed so it was very atmospheric but a bit chilly. Goosedown duvets and electric blanket kept us cozy at night. Vintage toilet was rather cold and cramped but suited the theme of the carriage. Plenty hot water in the shower. Engineering work was rather noisy the first two nights but interesting to watch the railway workers and just enough room left for our car in the car park. Super gluten free meals from the Ben Cruachan Inn and lots of lovely walks around the loch including to nearby 15th century Kilchurn Castle and St Conan's Kirk with Robert the Bruce tomb containing one of his teeth, interesting gardens and a wee tearoom. Lovely trip to Oban by train. So handy just across the footbridge. Unfortunately Loch Awe hotel above us was open to coach party residents only. Steps to the hotel covered in wet slippy leaves and also decking slippy outside our carriage but no problems wearing our hiking boots. A super unusual holiday experience.

Fantastically different accomodation. Plenty of room for our family of 4 (will sleep 5) and well kitted out with lots of original railway fixtures and fittings. Views are just unbeatable. Just be prepared for lots of envious stares from people staying at the hotel located up above when they wander down to look at the loch and from the occasional passing train! Kids loved a wave a toot from the train driver as they leave Loch Awe station.
