(Translated by Google) Inside the Lighthouse Visitor Center there is a small but very nice Lighthouse Caf with three tables and other exteriors. The owners Louise and Neil are wonderful people and Louise's cooking a show. We came to the Lighthouse Caf as I had booked a Cottage online to spend our wedding anniversary. We immediately realized that something was wrong, it had never happened to me to book an accommodation and to find it busy because the lady was still inside. Louise and Neil are not the owners of the Cottage but they did everything possible and impossible by dedicating about two hours of their time and by now closing the premises to find us a room and they succeeded and for this I thank you immensely, you were fabulous. They also manage the rental of bicycles which are located in a wooden house near the airport. We had a snack in the cafeteria with a good lemon cake and returned the next day for lunch, the mutton pie was a bomb of goodness. The dishes are carefully prepared at the moment, with local and fresh ingredients, all excellent. It is a must try, it is perhaps one of the best places to eat in Orkney. The Lighthouse Visitor Center consists of two rooms where the history and life of the island is told, the history of the lighthouse and a small shop with products from local artists. The Lighthouse was built by Alan Stevenson in 1852 with a height of 42 meters making it the tallest in the UK, located at the Point of Sinsoss. As there were no local stones to be used for the construction, everything had to be done by boat but being too expensive, red bricks were chosen. In 1889 its red bricks were painted two white bands to make it visible during the day. Its original lens is a Freshnel named after its inventor Augustin Freshnel. A flashing white light every 10 seconds. From here you can see the famous sheep on the beach.
