I had a great overnight stay. The campsite was very quiet when I was there. Toilets were clean and the campsite had all the usual amenities such as drinking water, recycling and an elsan point. Fires were permitted on the campsite which was a plus. 15per night for non electric pitch. Lots of walks and and places to explore within the estate. Largs is a 2.3mile walk along the cycle path that runs next to the water.

I've been to Kelburn many times, but never to the campsite. On this occasion I chose it for a mini adventure with my son as it is so close to home. The site was nice with some spectacular views of the Firth of Clyde, Cumbrae and Arran. The site itself was quite slopped so choose the direction you pitch your tent carefully if you don't like skidding off your bed in your sleep! It's choose your own pitch (unless paying for EHU) and if you're wanting shade in the later part of the afternoon/evening, choose a pitch in the bottom right hand side of the field (if available). My only complaint about the site is that the toilets are too far from the field. I was there with my three year old son and when I had to go to the toilet before I went to bed, I didn't like how far away I had to go. This then led to me rushing, in failing light, on an unpaved road and I fell and sprained my ankle. Thankfully another family of campers came to my aid, but it meant we had to pack up and leave first thing the following morning. In the site's favour, I emailed and explained the situation (as I'd had to leave my tent behind, not being able to take it down solo while injured) and they were very accomodating. Another family member was able to go back later in the day to pick up the tent which I was very grateful for. Pros: beautiful scenery right from your tent, access to the grounds and attractions within the estate included in your booking (some restrictions apply), clean and well maintained facilities, good location for accessing other parts of Nort Ayrshire/West of Scotland. Some suggested improvements: a small toilet block on the camping field itself in addition to the larger toilet/shower/washing facilities further away; better lighting on the main route between the camping field and the main facilities; and a better road surface on this route to avoid injuries.
