The original light house is at the highest point of the island and was filled with wood and burnt sending out light through the hole around the sides of the lighthouse warning ships of danger but it didn't work to well as around the west side of the island from the top of the cliff you can see a massive 3 mast ship which crashed into the island as it was really bad weather and the lighthouse wasn't seen in bad seas

Probably one of the most prominent landmarks of Wee Cumbrae from the mainland. This was the original lighthouse, which was basically a fir on top of the structure. It operated between 1757 and 1793, when the lighthouse on the west of the island took over. The outer structure is solid, but the original stairs & roof have long since gone.
