UPDATE TO REVIEW - 11th February 2023 -I have just tried to make an appointment to visit my stepson. I have been told that visits are now limited to 1 hour despite the fact that I have a 6-hour round trip drive to see him. This is on the instructions of his consultant, who has never observed a visit, but says that a 2-hour visit is too upsetting. Neither he nor his secretary are available at weekends. Update copied to : The Sun newspaper BBC MP for Gretna Green 1st Legal (law firm) DO YOU DRIVE A VEHICLE IN SCOTLAND? Then be aware this could happen to you. My stepson has been incarcerated (much of that time in solitary confinement) at MIDPARK hospital for several months now. The reason.....he was the INNOCENT victim of a road traffic accident which almost killed him and his mum. He suffered catastrophic head injury, along with severe arm, shoulder, pelvis & leg injuries. He is currently wheelchair-bound. He is a very intelligent man, previously having worked as a teacher of chemistry and English. However, his memory is now very short-term. He cannot understand why he is still incarcerated by NHS Scotland, when he desperately wants to be at home with family, friends and neighbours he knows. You may ask why is he still incarcerated by NHS Scotland....some months ago he expressed frustration at his continued imprisonment by getting a bit shouty and pushing a trolley away. This led to some so-called 'doctor' signing a bit of paper (and signing away their oaths, ethics and integrity) to have him 'detained'. This bit of paper was then 'rubber-stamped' by further alleged 'professionals' resulting in the aforementioned incarceration in the secure unit called MIDPARK hospital. He has been visited daily by his pensioner mum throughout his prolonged stay in hospital. They are BOTH desperate to continue his care and rehabilitation at home, but the ignorant 'powers-that-be' have decided (without carrying out any substantive assessment) that this cannot happen. He needs physiotherapy, stimulation and entertainment to ease the boredom of his incarceration HE GETS NONE OF THIS!! We send in DVD's so he has something to watch but he does not have access to a TV with a signal, so cannot watch sport, news, current affairs etc can you even imagine such a situation? He would be (far) better off in PRISON! His mum took in a portable aerial so they could get a signal on the TV. Yesterday she was accosted by the most obnoxious member of 'staff' imaginable (name available). This 'staff' (name available) returned the aerial to her and told her that the aerial could not be used as none of the rooms have TV access. This 'staff' (name available) went on to tell her that her son would not be coming home, so she could put that out of her mind. Let's face it - if you cannot muster a shred of sympathy or empathy, for patients, parents or carers, in this sort of role, surely you should be asking 'Is this the role for me?' Perhaps a fast food kitchen..? Edited 15.01.23 Cc BBC Scottish SUN Newspaper MP for Gretna Green 1st Legal (law firm)

Previously was a 3 star heading for a fourth but after 18 months worth of dealings I'm increasingly disillusioned. They have some decent staff but the constant rotation means poor follow thru and failure to take ownership for patient care. I have a friend languishing for months now in Balcary with serious health issues being largely ignored. NO access to basic facilities and no outside activities. Consultants defer to staff and vice-versa. Pass the buck and stuff the patient.com

Awful hospital. Awful opening hours compared to the old Crithon. Awful human rights abuses. Families not included, not allowed in rooms which is terrible and ridiculous. Not allowed over the white line. Not private visiting even in there meeting room. Awful for gay people and really awful transgender especially if they have physical problems and need care... their primary carer who they trust cannot go in and help. Which is a direct breech of human rights law. This hospital serves a massive county yet the open visiting hours are gone... what about the stupid hours now? How people are supposed to get to see their families if they are restrictions stopping them do this! It's the 21 century. And you people still don't get it. Fix the damn problems that have kept me frightened to death to need to go in!!!
