He was just learning to ride a bike and I want to encourage this healthy activity.
I am disabled (and quite old) and havent cycled in years. I cant drive, so I have to walk anywhere I want to go.
I had bought a bicycle to ride with my son but it was old and needed a complete overhaul.
I also lacked confidence and needed proper advice about all things cycling.
My son and I visited the shop as he needed a bike better suited to learning.
I cant tell you what an absolute godsend the guys in the shop were.
They spent a lot of time advising, helping and generally building our confidence.
He left with a deeply discounted cracker of a bike that had been fully refurbished and serviced.
I cant emphasise the difference it made to his confidence to be riding the appropriate bike for him, knowing that it was in tip top road worthy condition.
Within days he was riding like a champ and I couldnt keep up with him whilst walking.
So, I dragged my old bike from the shed and tried riding with it, but it was in such poor condition I was fearful and useless.
I took my bike to the guys in the shop and they completely overhauled my bike with new tyres, brake wires and generally cleaned it up.
The cost was pretty much just the cost of the parts and we were awarded money from the Scottish Cycle Repair Scheme.
ADVICE
This is a community resource, use it. Take your children here for their bikes. They will receive the proper advice for there age/skill.
Do not be afraid to go to the shop.
I can promise you that these guys, whilst being superbly experienced, skilled and knowledgable about their sport - want to help and encourage people of any age or skill level within their community to get on a bike.
They will inspire, advise and help in any way they can. There is no hard sell.
This is not a business per se - through grants from the Scottish Cycle Repair scheme they are able to keep costs at a minimum.
If you have any unused bikes, of any state of disrepair - dont throw them away - hand them into this shop.
They can use these for parts or to refurbish to sell at low prices with little to no profit to them.
Encourage everyone you know to use this amazing resource we have right on our doorstep.
I cannot emphasise enough how much of a hidden gem this place is.
Visit - I promise you will not be disappointed!
