We spent two weeks at The Anchorage on a recent family holiday, a large group including two young children, and it was just perfect for us. Scalpay makes a great base from which to explore beautiful Harris, with the lighthouse walk, Harbour Bistro and amazing seafood for purchase straight off the boat at the harbour across the water. The house is right by the water, with great views, especially at sunset. Car parking is fine for two small vehicles though involves some manouevering. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, a good sized family kitchen with extending table, more than enough crockery etc and a full range of equipment for cooking meals. The wee conservatory is a lovely place to sit and relax or look for wildlife (sadly we failed to spot any otters). Three big double bedrooms easily have room for a camp bed or child's cot and the single is a good size too. The Anchorage has a lovely homey feel, nothing luxurious but practical and comfortable. There's only one bathroom but we managed, with 8 adults and two children. We had a small problem but this was quickly and easily resolved within a couple of hours. We had a fantastic holiday and I can't wait to return.
