La'al Bothy | Self Catering Cottage Isle of Harris

Spent another cosy week last December in this unique, turf roofed bothy. It is filled with handcrafted furniture and artefacts made by the lovely hosts Ellen and Alan. The wood burning stove, already lit, generated a warm welcome on a cold, dreich day. It definitely was a welcoming 'hug' on my arrival after an interesting ferry crossing! Although daylight hours short and weather mixed, La'al Bothy was snug - great after brisk walks along Scarista Beach, just across the road. Ellen and Alan are very caring hosts and provide everything you need for either a winter or summer break - even down to a cool bag and thermos! The thermos this time used for hot chocolate amongst the sand dunes. The washing machine and vast supply of hot water was especially welcome on this visit after a few wet walks! Each time I return to the La'al I sleep like a log - not sure if it is the sea air or the extremely comfortable bed! La'al Bothy is a little treasure that will entice me back again and again.

Absolutely everything is provided you will want for nothing ! Everything has been thought of and included to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. We loved every minute of our stay and your lovely hosts Ellen & Alan will always be on hand if you need any information or any questions regarding the Bothy or anything regarding the Island....a wealth of knowledge and great advice made our holiday in May 2022 an adventure in more ways than one !! . Scarista Beach is the best one with beautiful dunes and an enormous sandy beach, turquoise sea with at times big surf and Sea Eagles !! unbelievable....The Golden Road and Rodel is a must. Luskentyre and Husinish especially for the drive I could go on forever. Just book up and look forward to an adventure you won't regret it....we will return and continue where we ended . Fantastic people and location is very special so enjoy it just like we have couldn't fault or find any negatives....thank you Ellen & Alan Andy & Fran x

Just spent 8 nights in the beautiful La'al Bothy which has fabulous views of Scarista beach and Taransay. The Bothy was a perfect base for my work in South Harris. It is spotlessly clean, beautifully dressed and very comfortable. Alan and Ellen were very hospitable and welcoming- thank you both for a great stay at very short notice. I'll be back hopefully with more time to enjoy swimming and walking etc

We cancelled the reservation last year, as we were not able to travel due to Covid-19 and we were a day away from lockdown. We asked to move our booking to a time that suited them or receive a partial/full refund, as we were going into lockdown, we were offered neither and they told us that they were keeping all of our money. No Terms & Conditions were stated on their website at the time of booking nor were they told to us over the phone when I made the enquiry. Watch out when you book & make agreements with the owners re-refunds should you not be able to travel.
