Monkton House

This was hired for my daughters hen party, and I have reccomended ot to everyone I meet. It was just amazing, absolutely beautiful public rooms, everyone different and the decor is amazing, you have the entire building to yourselves. As much privacy as you want and equally so many large spacious rooms to gather in. We turned the downstairs games room into a nightclub and made full use of the adjoining bar. The bedrooms are amazing and just so comfortable. We stayed in the 2 bedroom lodge, I just didn't want to leave. I can't stress how fabulous this house was and needless to say my daughter was delighted with this very special surprise her beautiful bridesmaids arranged for her. If you are looking for a large family gathering place this is it.

We got married at Monkton House with just close family and friends. The house was beautiful and perfect for the occasion, as there are plenty of bathrooms and every bedroom is equally nice and special in its own way. The owner sent us very helpful recommendations for food etc in the area and was also responsive and friendly in the run up to the event. The only thing we would say is that we were told that the house would be heated for our arrival as it was a January booking but we had a very cold first night, owing in part to an unusual and temperamental heating system which wasnt explained to us. Our room also had a different heating system which did not support enough hot water for two people and so resulted in some freezing cold showers and cold baths...on the morning of our wedding. Really not what you want. In addition, the wi-fi was patchy and weak making it unwise, perhaps, to rely on it for streaming. One of the hobs also conked out during the prep of the wedding meal creating delay and issues for the kitchen. The owner was defensive and unapologetic about these issues which left a bit of a cloud over the experience. Overall though, and leaving that aside, we were delighted to get married at Monkton. It was scenic, attractively done and well provisioned in terms of kitchenware, towels, etc. The rooms are interesting and decorated well; there is plenty of space for people to relax and get some peace and quiet while others are either socialising, or playing pool/ table tennis. There are loads of board games and books; working fire places in every public room; and superb grounds.

Wow , Monkton House was such a fantastic venue for our wedding. We stayed for three nights and could have stayed all week! Anna and her partner were quick to answer our queries and always very accommodating. Our guests were truly taken aback by how beautiful the house and grounds were. We also made use of the marquee which was really spacious and near to the house - perfect for dancing ! The garden was also brilliant for our wedding photos- some amazing shots. Thanks so much Anna!

A unique location for our weekend away, the perfect location for a get away for a group of friends or a family. We were blessed with good weather so made use of the big garden with a BBQ and fire pit, then when it started to get a bit cold the games room and bar are great spaces for everyone to catch up. When we wanted to see Edinburgh the 6 seat black cab was only 22 from the Royal Mile, so very convenient!

It was an absolute joy to celebrate our wedding at Monkton House - it's such a beautiful and special venue that helped us make the day feel magical! We stayed at Monkton House or 5 days in total and the whole family loved it with everyone making plans to return on an annual basis now :) Anna, the owner, is lovely and she was so helpful, always available and answering all of our questions. I would definitely recommend Monkton House for a stay or to celebrate a special event!
