Considering just how culturally important Ellisland Farm is it remains completely unspoiled by gift shops, coach parks and hoards of photograph taking tourists. It was at Ellisland that Burns wrote some of his greatest works including Tam O Shanter and The Wounded Hare. The trust that runs it have applied for UNESCO World heritage status, something it richly deserves and desperately needs. It would be great to see some money spent on preserving it and its treasures not just for Scotland but for the whole world. I really hope this can be done without spoiling its charm because as it is now you half expect to bump into Burns as you turn every corner.
