Gone are the days of sending your child to primary school and feeling confident they are receiving a really good start to their education. I am sooooo sad to come out with this statement but sadly I feel its true. I had concerns pretty early on about my daughters education. She goes to a small school which I couldn't praise enough about when my son went there. Sadly, over the years I have seen the standard of education go downhill. I have the luxury of being able to compare their education and let me be clear here, it is the "education" I'm comparing, not the child. I could go on forever but who wants to read a novel for a review. I will bullet point a few things addressed: * spelling not corrected ( as it could affect their mental health if given too many corrections and apparently spelling isn't important any more as we have spell check) *reading done once a week if at all and saying they read when researching stuff so no need for book reading any more. My problem being this is independent and how can they see what level my child is at *maths topics learned all over the place. Bit of adding, subtracting. Statements like " we don't teach them how to do maths now we teach "strategies" and the child picks the one they like best to use. I asked for the results of my daughters SNSA tests and could see the areas where my daughter was falling short. I was pretty shocked to be honest to go into meetings to be told my daughter was " doing fine" was " meeting the approved standard". I was fed up of my child being what I called "a tick box child" ticking boxes so the school can feel they have done enough to provide an "average" education to her. After years of meetings with teachers and head teachers " working together, " I felt I had to take matters into my own hands. I decided on the maths programme for my daughter as she reads alot and I correct her spelling and am teaching her how to write stories. I couldn't recommend kumon enough. It starts at a level they can do to build their confidence, then gets gradually more difficult once they are confident enough to realise they CAN do this. She is learning her tables, which being nearly in p6, her school has failed to do with her and the other kids in her class. I couldn't be more proud of her commitment to this programme and as I said to her school she WANTS to learn, where they have gone down the route of agile learning where they feel the need to hide the fact they are "apparently" learning but I am afraid to say I am not seeing the results. Why hide the fact they are learning when children thrive on gaining knowledge. I m sorry to say schools, but old school methods work. And Alison and her team have got the measure just right between not having pressure of learning we oldies had back in the day, and learning we really have to work hard to achieve where we want to get to in life. In a nutshell. If you want your child to master addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, to give them the best chance for high school. And not be afraid of the dreaded tests. Kumon is a must. I just want to finish off by saying that my child goes here because I can see she is bright and can achieve mastering her maths skills not because she was struggling at school as she was not. She sadly was not receiving a good standard of education where her maths and English were concerned. Thanks so much Alison and the team for your amazing work and Justina, you show such interest in my daughter and have a lovely caring way.

This is the best decision I have made taking my daughter to Kumon to make sure she has a better education. In 2018 (going into P6), we noticed that she was unable to do most of her times tables and was bottom of the class at Primary - although every parents night was shes doing great. Schools follow their curriculum and if your child hasnt caught up, in my opinion, they are left behind. Alison assessed my daughter and she had to go right back to basics. Doing repetitive work everyday got Aimee to where she is now. Since being at Kumon, she is now second from the top in Maths at High School. She studies for upcoming tests for school without being asked and does not feel anxious or nervous. She now is able to ask for help if she is unsure of anything. Her confidence has excelled. If this is something you are considering for your child, do it! I wish I knew about Kumon earlier for all my children. I really cant thank Alison enough!

At each primary parents evening I raised concerns about my daughters numeracy to be reassured it would come in time, no interventions or advice offered. Early P7 this was not the case and I called Alison for advice. I could not have been more reassured and decided this was the best intervention for my daughter and we started with the basics immediately. My daughter hugely lacked confidence with numeracy and was emotional with anything maths related, noted instantly by Alison at first meeting. Nine months on it is like night and day with my daughters confidence and numeracy skills massively increased, she even enjoys maths! Buoyed by the notable improvement we have started literacy too, in preparation for starting S1. Fully confident that my daughter will be on par with her peers within the next year, we will continue with Kumon for the foreseeable. To do things the old way; daily practise, rote learning and correction as you go, is the best way. Kumon had become a daily routine and I cannot thank Alison and her team enough. The reassurance for child and parent is hugely appreciated. I cannot recommend Kumon more highly if your child is struggling or lacking confidence. If in doubt, give Alison a call!
